Introducing Rachel Pate:

World Languages and French Teacher

We are excited to announce Rachel Pate as our World Languages and French teacher at the School for Advanced Studies Northwest Arkansas!

Rachel has taught 6th and 7th grade Linguistics at our sister schools, BASIS Austin, and BASIS Cedar Park for the past three years. The new World Languages curriculum at the School for Advanced Studies Northwest Arkansas perfectly matches her background and passions.

Rachel majored in Linguistics at Baylor University after she took an introductory class as an elective for her original major, English Literature. Linguistics helped her answer many questions she’d always had about languages that she’d never had the chance to explore. Spanish was her only world language option in high school, so when she got to college, she was excited to have the opportunity to take French. While studying abroad in the Netherlands, Rachel had a French teacher who switched seamlessly among French, Spanish, English, and Dutch. She was in awe of her and wanted to study as many languages as possible, so she started studying Dutch, then she had further opportunities through her Linguistics major to study Russian, Arabic, Old English, and Latin. Fun fact, that’s a total of eight languages! After completing her undergraduate degree, Rachel went on to earn a Master of Arts in French Linguistics, and she continues to be particularly fascinated by second language acquisition and syntax.

She hopes to inspire students to understand and appreciate the world of language and linguistics!

We’re thrilled to welcome Rachel to the team, and we can’t wait for you to meet her too!
